This environmental education center, operated by Texas State University-San Marcos, is centered around the freshwater springs that created the San Marcos River. Visitors can view and interact with a variety of educational exhibits including
an aquarium.
The springs and river, created millions of years ago, flow through 175 miles of
honeycomb limestone of the Edwards Aquifer before filling Spring Lake. The
Critical Habitat of the San Marcos River is home to five endangered species.
