A benefit to raise money for a new lighted sign at the LBJ museum Speakeasy on the Square is a Leadership San Marcos fund-raising party to aid the LBJ Museum in obtaining a new lighted sign. , the benefit costs $25 per person, $40 per couple. Sponsorship levels are available at the Lightbulb ($100, 2 tickets), Neon ($500, 4 tickets), Letter ($1,000, 6 tickets), Marque ($5,000, 8 tickets), and Stetson ($10,000, 10 tickets) levels. Participants may come as they are after work or may dress up in "Great Gatsby/Jazz Age" garb for extra fun. The theme celebrates the time of LBJ's college years (1927-1930) in San Marcos. Highlights of the evening will be entertaining stories about LBJ's time in San Marcos by Texas State University professors and special guests, along with vintage cocktails. In 1927 Lyndon Johnson enrolled in Southwest Texas Teachers College. He became Texas State's most famous student and was the only U.S. President to graduate from a Texas University. The LBJ Museum is an anchor of the San Marcos MainStreet® program, located at 131 N. Guadalupe Street. The museum educates several thousand guests each year and has been constantly improving since opening in 2006. Leadership San Marcos is a program that trains individuals to become tomorrow's community organizers and directors. The 2014 class project to install a new attention-grabbing lighted sign for the museum will attract more downtown visitors to the museum and provide a visual symbol of the museum's character. The evening promises to be one of this year's memorable "Don't Miss!" events.
