Grand Opening of CTMC Inpatient Hospice Unit Will Take Place Nov. 6... Ribbon Cutting to be held at 10:30 am Central Texas Medical Center (CTMC) will hold a grand opening event for its new Inpatient Hospice Unit on November 6 at 10:30 a.m. The event will feature a San Marcos Chamber ribbon cutting, light refreshments and tours of the new unit. The Inpatient Hospice Unit at CTMC is located on the second floor of the hospital's Women's Center wing and is the first of its kind between Austin and San Antonio. "As more Central Texans age, the demand for this specialized care is growing, and we have worked hard with the CTMC Hospice Advisory Board to provide it in a way that will serve our community well," said CTMC CEO/President Sam Huenergardt. The unit was created to provide a faith-based, compassionate, home-like setting for hospice patients who need short-term hospitalization to manage a situation that cannot effectively be treated in the home. In addition, short-and-long-term residential care will be provided in the unit on a private pay basis for those seeking an alternative to in-home or nursing home care. "The transition from living to dying is difficult," said Thea Dake, CTMC Hospice Advisory Board chair. "We feel our Inpatient Hospice unit will help with this transition by providing a warm, home-like environment when hospitalization is required. Both the patient and their family will benefit from knowing their loved one continues to receive compassionate care and is never alone." The unit will be available to all hospice patients and agencies for any inpatient hospital need or private pay residential treatment.
