Before the lively crowds arrive, the early birds prepare viewing spots along the parade route on the streets of downtown San Marcos. Local pubs and restaurants join the fun with parade watch parties serving up specials created just for this grand event. Parade-goers line the streets even before the first whistle of contagious, carnivalesque music signals the beginning of the joyous procession. The parade line-up starts at the corner of CM Allen and Cheatham Street and offers plenty of viewing options along the route. The fun continues at the Downtown Street Faire immediately following the parade. The event location is at the Hays County Courthouse grounds and adjacent streets. The Faire from 10:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. Within walking distance from downtown, families can enjoy this FREE community festival of art, live music, food, and fun!

This sixth annual ‘Texas original’ - as is our tradition - highlights selected honorees representing the arts, river guardianship, and heritage of San Marcos.
 

The central theme for this entertaining family event is the Fresh-water mermaid. The famous, new icon of San Marcos, now designated The Mermaid Capital of Texas, celebrates our history of the Aquamaids of Aquarena Springs and immortalizes the mermaid as guardians of the San Marcos River. The Parade highlights include the Mermaid SPLASH Royal Court, including our King of SPLASH, Mermaid Queen and Royal Court, Parade Grand Marshal, and Honorees.
