Art UnHitched Features Ghislaine Kruse-Van Erp and Chris Kruse Art UnHitched has chosen Ghislaine Kruse – van Erp and her husband Chris Kruse as the featured artists for the November art market. Ghislaine specializes in fiber arts and jewelry; Chris makes mixed media folk art paintings. Ghislaine’s mother was a fiber arts teacher, and she started learning the fundamentals of textile art at a very young age. “I have always felt the need to push the limits of this medium,” she said. In her search for items that would translate to something that can be seen or used in everyday life, she went from making hand tufted rugs and wall hangings to creating wet felted containers and baskets and finally jewelry. “Every step along the way, I worked smaller and smaller while translating fiber art techniques into techniques I could use with metals and gemstones, but also creating jewelry from thread and felt,” she said. Besides that, she has fun in making silly dolls from upcycled sweaters. Other favorite techniques include micro-crochet with thread and wire, tapestry weaving and basket weaving with wire. Chris said that he is an observer and listener. He loves the power of the written language and graffiti, street signs, and yard signs provide inspiration to him. Chris has taken the statement by ART-Ghislaine Kruse--Van Erp and Chris Kruse are the featured artists for the November Art Unhitched on Nov.9.
